In a border town in Texas, adjacent to Mexico, notorious for its troubles due to the influx of illegal immigrants from Mexico, drugs, and guns. Escada (Julio Cedillo) is an immigrant from Mexico working as a cowboy on a local farm, and his honesty and kindness quickly earn him the friendship of the farm's caretaker, Peter (Tommy Lee Jones). Unfortunately, one day Escada goes missing, and soon his body is found, buried by local police. As Escada had entrusted Peter to return his body to his homeland for burial if he were to die far away, Peter embarks on the greatest adventure of his life. On one hand, he vows to uncover the true culprit behind his friend's death; on the other, he must break local laws to transport the body over a thousand miles.
