In the rehearsal hall of the Baihua Orchestra, the orchestra was rehearsing the piano concerto "Qinsi" composed and conducted by Fang Bing, based on his personal experiences. Suddenly, the secretary came in to ask the pianist Zhang Bo to go to the office to take a call. The call was from a foreign Chinese who was looking for Zhang Bo on behalf of an old acquaintance, Zhu Zhilan, from abroad. After answering the phone, Zhang Bo’s emotions surged, triggering memories of the past. Zhang Bo lost his father at a young age and worked as a servant in the Zhu family with his mother, confined to the kitchen all day. Zhu Zhilan, the young lady of the Zhu family, had a great love for music and played the piano in the hall every day. The clear and pleasant piano sounds captivated young Zhang Bo and sparked a strong interest in music within him. One day, Zhang Bo snuck out of the kitchen and curiously approached the piano to try playing it. Zhu Zhilan noticed Zhang Bo's musical talent and, despite her parents' objections, insisted on taking him as her student, teaching him piano daily and taking care of his daily needs. Zhu Zhilan's lover, Xiao Xue, also loved music and was a violinist. Zhu Zhilan believed that only by studying at a famous music academy abroad could one achieve success in the arts. However, Xiao Xue believed that artists who are far from their homeland, no matter how favorable their conditions are, will accomplish nothing. He urged Zhilan to go to Yan'an and join the revolution, but Zhilan, ignoring his advice, chose to follow her aunt abroad. From then on, they embarked on completely different paths. After Zhu Zhilan went abroad, Zhang Bo’s mother also passed away, leaving him as an orphan living on the streets, begging for a living. After the liberation, Zhang Bo's musical talent was discovered by Fang Bing from an art school. He then entered the art school and gradually grew into an outstanding pianist. It turned out that Zhu Zhilan’s past lover was Fang Bing. After he joined the revolution, the war destroyed his violin, but he remained undaunted, doing whatever work he could. After liberation, he took on the responsibility of training the next generation of musicians in his country and taught himself conducting. During the ten years of turmoil, when he was stripped of his conducting rights, he secretly engaged in music composition. After decades of struggle, he finally achieved a certain level of success in his career. Forty years later, Zhu Zhilan, nostalgic for her hometown, returned to her country and was excited to see her former student Zhang Bo after many years. Both Zhang Bo and his wife Du Xiaoning did not expect that after Zhu Zhilan went abroad, she was eventually eliminated from the fierce artistic competition, despite her aunt’s efforts, and became a restaurant owner. Zhu Zhilan also did not anticipate that the former orphan, nurtured by the party, had become a famous pianist; her former lover had also become an outstanding music worker. The piano concerto "Qinsi" was performed, with Fang Bing conducting and Zhang Bo playing the piano. Zhu Zhilan watched them from the side stage, tears streaming down her face, lost in thought... At the airport, Zhu Zhilan reluctantly bid farewell to Fang Bing, Zhang Bo, Du Xiaoning, and others. With tears in her eyes, she boarded the plane, silently wishing these fortunate ones to reach greater heights in the arts.
