Wade Porter (played by Stephen Dorff) has a sweet family, a gentle and virtuous wife, and an innocent and lovely son. He is also fortunate to have applied for a business loan, ready to make a big move in the coming year. One night, while the whole family is asleep, a burglar suddenly enters the room. After ensuring his wife and son are safe, John chases the thief, and in self-defense, he strikes with a heavy object just as the burglar prepares to pull out a weapon, resulting in the burglar's immediate death.
