Wade Porter (played by Stephen Dorff) has a sweet family, a gentle and virtuous wife, and an innocent and lovely son. He is also fortunate to have applied for a business loan, ready to make a big move in the coming year. One night, while the whole family is asleep, a burglar suddenly enters the room. After ensuring his wife and son are safe, John chases the thief, and in self-defense, he strikes with a heavy object just as the burglar prepares to pull out a weapon, resulting in the burglar's immediate death. John is imprisoned for this, as he did not choose to plead his case and is sentenced to three years in prison, with the possibility of a reduced sentence. However, upon entering jail, he realizes that life behind bars is quite similar to that of organized crime. A fugitive is stabbed to death during transport because he had ingested gang drugs. The prison guards hope John will testify against the gang, but fearing trouble, he refuses. Consequently, he becomes at odds with the guards. His cellmate, a former gang leader, teaches John how to adapt to this dirty environment. To reunite with his wife and son, John is forced to join a Nazi gang, becoming embroiled in a bloody conflict…
