Daigo Kobayashi (Masahiro Motoki), who bought an expensive cello in hopes of achieving a successful career, faced the unfortunate news of “orchestra disbandment” and the heavy debt from his instrument purchase after four months of orchestral performances. With no other options, Daigo and his wife Mika (Ryoko Hirosue) moved to an old house, leading a frugal life. One day, an advertisement caught Daigo's attention: NK Agency, offering high-paying short hours for travel assistance. Daigo went for an interview at NK Agency, where the president, Mr. Sasaki (Tsutomu Yamazaki), decided to hire him immediately without explaining the job details. After persistent questioning from Daigo, Mr. Sasaki finally revealed the nature of the work: it was embalming (Japanese: Nou Kan)! Despite his psychological reservations, the high salary led Daigo to accept the job. However, such a job isn't easy for an ordinary person; he must deal with discomfort regarding the deceased while also hiding his occupation from friends and family. Thus began Kobayashi Daigo’s extraordinary career.
