Danny (Rhys Ifans) has been in a relationship with his girlfriend Trudy (Justine Clarke) for many years. Her feelings for him have faded over time, and she often expresses contempt for him unknowingly, which frustrates Danny. One day, Danny ties a bunch of balloons to the chair he is sitting in, and to his surprise, he starts to float into the sky. He drifts for an unknown amount of time until he finally descends during a grand fireworks display. Danny lands in a small town called Clarence, where he meets a girl named Glenda (Miranda Otto).
