The story begins in 1966 in Kyushu. Due to his father's job, the shy boy Nishiami Kaoru (played by Chinen Yuri) has been constantly experiencing moving and transferring schools since he was very young. The pressure from constantly changing environments has caused Kaoru to develop a problem where he feels nauseous whenever he gets nervous. After another transfer, Kaoru arrives at a high school in Nagasaki Prefecture, feeling exhausted from the accumulated pressure. However, he discovers that the school's rooftop provides him with a brief respite; only here can he escape the ever-watchful eyes of others and be his true self. One day, Kaoru unexpectedly encounters Kawabuchi Chintaro (played by Nakagawa Taishi), a notorious delinquent, sleeping on the rooftop. Initially intimidated by Chintaro, Kaoru eventually discovers his gentle side through their interactions.
