Lady Prospera (Helen Mirren 饰), inherently kind and fond of studying magic, is forced to flee to a deserted island with her daughter Miranda (Felicity Jones 饰) due to the joint persecution by her brother Antonio (Chris Cooper 饰) and King Alonso (David Strathairn 饰). Lady Prospera uses her magic to subjugate the spirits of the island and later conjures a storm that causes the ship carrying Antonio, Alonso, and Prince Ferdinand (Reeve Carney 饰) to shipwreck, leading the three men to drift to the island where she resides. On the deserted island, the ambitious trio continues to plot against each other, while Lady Prospera uses her magic to teach them the lessons of humanity and the essence of truth, goodness, and beauty.
