During the Anti-Japanese War, the Japanese army invaded Yunnan from Myanmar. The various ethnic minorities in the western border of Yunnan used their most primitive weapons, bows, and long knives, to engage in fierce battles with the Japanese troops. Colonel Yamaki, the commander of the Japanese base, received reports that a Japanese convoy was trapped in a sea of fire. Enraged, he sent a special team led by Captain Kobayashi into the mountains to incite ethnic conflicts for concentrated extermination, while personally undertaking a bloody massacre in the Jingpo village. The Jingpo female leader Maru led the remaining villagers to escape to the Dulong village. The Dulong chief was gathering leaders to discuss anti-Japanese strategies and ordered his daughter Ai to lead a team to divert the Japanese army and rescue the Jingpo sisters. When Maru saw the gates of Dulong village closed, she mistakenly believed that the Dulong chief was indifferent to their plight and led everyone to flee towards the river. The Japanese troops pursued them to the riverside, committing brutal massacres. Suddenly, arrows rained down from the dense forest, forcing Colonel Yamaki and his team to retreat in panic. The Lisu warriors saved the Jingpo women, and Lisu leader Poison Arrow sent his son Amang along with Maru to contact the Dulong people to attack the Japanese camp. That day, a group of Japanese soldiers suddenly emerged from the forest, killing the Dulong warriors, and attempted to assault Ai. In a critical moment, Dulong warrior La Liang saved Ai. Amang and Maru arrived, and Ai blamed Amang for not saving her. Maru, furious, scolded the Dulong people for keeping the gates shut, which led to the murder of the Jingpo women by the Japanese army, and they drew their swords against each other. Ai was overpowered and fell to the ground, while La Liang drew his sword to assist Ai, thus forging a grudge between Ai and Maru. The three ethnic groups, originally planning to jointly attack the Japanese camp, went their separate ways. Poison Arrow led Lisu warriors and Jingpo brothers in a night raid on the Japanese camp but fell into a trap and was killed by gunfire. Heartbroken, Maru blamed the Dulong people for betraying them and sought revenge. Suddenly, a group of Dulong warriors appeared from the forest, firing wildly at the crowd before fleeing. Maru and the others decided to attack Dulong village first. To eliminate resentment, the Dulong chief went alone to the Lisu village but was killed on the way. Ai resolved to have a decisive battle with the Jingpo and Lisu. When they gathered on a hillside to prepare for a fight, the Japanese soldiers hidden around them suddenly opened fire. Maru, Ai, and others realized the situation and fought while retreating. In the end, they executed the spy and wiped out all the special team members. The Lisu, Jingpo, and Dulong warriors, led by Maru and Ai, charged into the Japanese camp and killed Colonel Yamaki, beginning a new journey.
