28-year-old woman Kathy (played by Carey Mulligan) has lived since childhood in the rigorously disciplined boarding school Hailsham, where Tommy (played by Andrew Garfield) and Ruth (played by Keira Knightley) are her two most important friends. The young boys and girls experience the most innocent and romantic moments of their lives under the warm sunlight of the English countryside, and they also forge sincere friendships. However, one day, the youngsters receive a shocking message from Miss Lucy (played by Sally Hawkins): the ultimate goal of Hailsham is to train them to become organ donors, and they must selflessly give everything until their young lives come to an end. At the age of 18, they are allowed to leave Hailsham to attend various boarding schools. A somber fate follows them closely, and they will experience much more in their brief lives... The film is adapted from the eponymous novel by British-Japanese author Kazuo Ishiguro and won the Best Actress award at the 2010 British Independent Film Awards (Carey Mulligan).
