The story takes place in Bolivia, Central America, the location where the two protagonists of "The Last Crusade" ultimately meet their demise. Jack Blackthorn, portrayed by Sam Shepard, makes a living as a horse breeder and, feeling that his time is short, decides to return to the United States. On his journey, Jack encounters a fugitive played by Eduardo Noriega, and the two gradually develop an extraordinary friendship. This film is considered a sequel to "The Last Crusade" and represents a less common Western theme in Spanish cinema, featuring American star Sam Shepard alongside Spanish hunk Eduardo Noriega. "The Western genre is essentially a moral genre, where the choices faced by the characters are simple and pure—life and death, or freedom, promises, loyalty, courage, justice, and even love," director Mateo Gil stated. "The decisions they make are not only dramatically effective but also carry educational significance." Gil is well-known as a screenwriting partner of acclaimed director Alejandro Amenábar, having written works like "Open Your Eyes," "The Sea Inside," and "Agora." His debut film, "Evil Dead," directed in 1999, also featured Noriega and was nominated for a Goya Award for Best Special Effects. In 2005, he released a television film called "The Devil," and "Blackthorn" marks his third feature film.
