The story takes place in the 1980s. A renowned botanist cultivates and researches plants on an island, characterized by his strict and conservative nature, living alone with his daughter Chen An (played by Li Xiaoran). One day, a mixed-race girl, Li Ming (played by Mylène Jampanoï), comes to the island for an internship after losing both her parents in the Tangshan earthquake. Chen An spends day and night with Li Ming, and they develop an unspoken romantic connection that deepens over time. Chen An's brother, who is serving in the military in Tibet, returns home and falls for Li Ming, prompting their father to strongly support the marriage. At this point, Chen An and Li Ming have already pledged their lifelong commitment to each other, evolving into a complicated mix of desire and love. To ensure they can be together forever, Li Ming decides to accept the marriage proposal. However, the brother eventually discovers that Li Ming is not a virgin, and in a fit of rage, he injures her. Li Ming flees back to the botanical garden, at which point the father begins to notice the unusual relationship between Li Ming and his daughter. A tragedy is slowly unfolding.
