In a certain area of the Middle East, the U.S. military's intelligence system has locked onto a target. The president, disregarding the recommended approach calculated by the system, orders a precision strike, triggering an unexpected chain reaction... Jerry (played by Shia LaBeouf), a small office employee, leads a dull and uneventful life, often struggling financially, with rent becoming a problem. After the unexpected death of his twin brother who served in the military, Jerry rushes home to attend the funeral. However, upon returning, he discovers his house filled with weapons, and the FBI bursts in through the windows to arrest him. Meanwhile, a woman named Rachel (played by Michelle Monaghan) learns from a roadside electronic billboard that her son has been kidnapped by someone with extraordinary abilities capable of controlling electronic devices and monitoring everything. This kidnapper guides Jerry to evade the FBI, and he eventually gets into Rachel's car. The two strangers are forced to cooperate as they become entangled in the mysterious kidnapper's plan while being pursued by the FBI... Who is the kidnapper? What are their intentions?
