"No one meets without being enemies," is aptly demonstrated by Liu Yuan (played by Ge You) and Li Qing (played by Xu Fan). They meet for the first time in the U.S., when Li Qing has just arrived to house-sit for a Taiwanese friend and encounters Liu Yuan, who is receiving a Chinese film crew. After several exchanges, they develop a basic understanding of each other. Liu Yuan gives Li Qing a plane ticket and advises her to return to China, where her prospects would be better. However, Li Qing decides to stay in the U.S., and a year later, she happens to collide with Liu Yuan's car. By chance, Liu Yuan offers her a job at his travel agency, only to discover that the agency is involved in illegal immigration, leading to trouble for Li Qing. In frustration, she tells Liu Yuan never to contact her again. Unexpectedly, a year later, they meet again and start a tutoring class together. Thus, they repeatedly reunite and separate until one day, when they are old, a chance opportunity arises for them to express their deeper feelings for each other.
