In the tense and hot summer in Taipei as the unified entrance exam approaches, Liu Zhiqiang daydreams about taking the girl he has a crush on to Green Island to ride a submarine and explore the underwater world, dreaming of "tropical fish." After another disappointing mock exam score that lets his parents down, he accidentally sees a kidnapping case on television and attempts to single-handedly rescue the child, only to find himself captured instead. The kidnapper, A-Qing (played by Lin Zhengsheng), is a working-class guy from the countryside trying to make a living in Taipei. After a failed extortion, he takes the two children home. A-Qing's family lives in hardship but is cheerful, carefully arranging the lives of the two children while figuring out how to obtain a high ransom. A-Qing even brings in his dropout sister, A-Juan’s, unused textbooks for Liu Zhiqiang to continue studying. In the end, the police find Liu Zhiqiang, who has been taken by A-Qing to escape capture at sea, but Liu Zhiqiang denies that A-Qing is the kidnapper...
