French director Vidal wants to remake a vampire film from the silent film era. After watching the Hong Kong film "The East Is Red," he decides to cast actress Maggie Cheung from the film. Upon arriving in France, Cheung can only communicate in English with those around her, leading to a difficult shooting process. During this time, everyone is discussing the unusual relationship between Cheung and the costume designer, and the producer starts to doubt director Vidal's ability and motives. One day, after watching the recently filmed scenes, the director suddenly experiences a mental breakdown, and the producer finally decides to replace both the director and the lead actress... The film unfolds in a play-within-a-play format, using a blend of reality and illusion to depict the various states of a film during production, exploring the connection between people and art, and the blurred line between reality and dreams.
