The story takes place in the 23rd century, where human technology has reached the point of interstellar travel. In 2230, a boy named Spock (played by Zachary Quinto) is born on the planet Vulcan. Due to his mother Amanda Grayson (played by Winona Ryder) being human, he often faces ridicule and bullying from his peers. His father Sarek (played by Ben Cross) is a diplomat from Vulcan, and Spock struggles throughout his childhood between the strict Vulcan logic of his education and his human emotions. As an adult, Spock encounters Kirk (played by Chris Pine), who shares similar ambitious aspirations. Despite their constant conflicts, they gradually begin to understand each other through various tests of their missions. The old captain of the USS Enterprise is Christopher Pike (played by Bruce Greenwood), and the crew includes Chief Medical Officer "Bones" McCoy (played by Karl Urban), Chief Engineer Scott (played by Simon Pegg), Communications Officer Uhura (played by Zoe Saldana), Helmsman Sulu (played by John Cho), and 17-year-old navigator—genius teenager Chekov (played by Anton Yelchin). An older Spock from the future (played by Leonard Nimoy) travels through time to inform Kirk that the remnants of the Romulan Empire, led by Nero (played by Eric Bana), have returned to the present and are seeking revenge. Nero destroys Spock's home planet of Vulcan, with Earth being the next target... The film won the Oscar for Best Makeup at the 82nd Academy Awards. 【Media Reviews】 The most exciting Star Trek movie in 30 years, marking the beginning of Captain Kirk's new legend.
