After the unbelievable events of the previous chapter, Dalton (played by Ty Simpkins), the eldest son of the Lambert family, temporarily frees himself from the clutches of evil spirits, while the medium Elise (played by Lin Shaye) meets a tragic end in the room, and Dalton's father Josh (played by Patrick Wilson) is suspected of murder. Since the police need to continue investigating their house, Josh has no choice but to temporarily return to his mother Lorraine's (played by Barbara Hershey) home with his wife Renai (played by Rose Byrne) and their three children. Just when they thought everything would return to normal, Renai and the children seem to still be plagued by malevolent spirits. Lorraine realizes the severity of the situation and brings in a medium named Carl (played by Steve Coulter), second only to Elise, in an attempt to restore normalcy; however, events begin to unfold in unpredictable ways…
