In the lunar month of July, the Ghost Festival approaches. The streets are filled with chilling winds and ghostly shadows, presenting a bleak and desolate scene. In a dark alley, Zonghua (played by Stephen Chow), a man who failed in business on the mainland, arrives. Having been deceived by friends and lost everything, he faces the painful turmoil of life, but fortunately, his aging father accepts him. His father, Xiaotian (played by Lam Wai), is the head of a traditional ghost performance troupe, currently organizing the members to prepare for the annual grand show for spirits and demons. Just before the show begins, Xiaotian suddenly falls ill, and the inexperienced Zonghua is hastily appointed as the acting leader. In a flurry, he struggles to gain the support of the troupe, but thanks to the beautiful actress Xiaoyan (played by Lau Sin Yau), who lends a helping hand, they seem to develop a mutual affection. However, as the performance day approaches, strange and terrifying incidents occur more frequently: a rebellious sister suddenly changes her attitude, Xiaoyan is emotionally erratic, a disfigured woman appears fleetingly, and there's a shadow of someone jumping off a building.
The wronged have their reasons, debts have their owners; whatever you do, you must face the consequences. Even if you escape to the ends of the earth, what can you do…
