Helen (Gwyneth Paltrow) finally realizes her dream of marrying the man she loves, Jackson (Johnathon Schaech), and becomes pregnant with their love's fruit. Shortly after the wedding, Helen follows Jackson back to his hometown, where she is met by Jackson’s mother, her mother-in-law, Martha (Jessica Lange). Martha is graceful and dignified, and Helen is confident that she can build a friendly relationship with her.
