In 1940s America, "The Godfather" Vito Corleone (portrayed by Marlon Brando) is the head of the Corleone crime family, leading the family in illegal activities while also serving as a protector for many weak and powerless civilians, earning their deep affection. Due to his refusal to engage in drug transactions with the drug lord Sollozzo, tensions escalate between the Corleone family and several other mafia families in New York. On Christmas Eve, Sollozzo kidnaps the Godfather's advisor Tom and sends assassins to kill the Godfather; due to an insider's betrayal, the Godfather's eldest son Sonny is murdered by enemies; the youngest son Michael (portrayed by Al Pacino) also gets involved and loses his beloved wife. The conflicts between the mafia families heat up increasingly. How does the aging Godfather cope with the pain of losing a son while managing everything? How will the mafia vendettas come to an end? Who is the insider in the family? And who can become the new generation of the "Godfather"? Bloodshed and warmth realistically unfold in this milestone gangster epic.
