A teacher (Cheng Tai-shen) brought an educational revolutionary practice group to Xiping Village to collect material and compile teaching materials. High school student Jing Qiu (Zhou Dongyu) was arranged to stay at the home of the old village chief (Li Xuejian), where the village chief's wife (Sa Rina) mentioned a young man named Lao San (Dou Xiao). He is a member of a geological exploration team and rarely returns home due to work. Jing Qiu is very curious about Lao San, and when they finally meet, they open up to each other about their feelings under the hawthorn trees. Lao San gifts her a fountain pen and helps her relieve her worries, slowly leading to mutual affection.
