In the late Qing Dynasty, there was a beautiful river called Sword River in the mysterious Miao region, where the non-interacting Wolong Village (Dong ethnic group) and Huilong Village (Miao ethnic group) are located on either side. Liang Shifu (played by Liang Xiaolong), a descendant of a central plains general, arrived at Sword River following in the footsteps of his ancestors, making a living by teaching martial arts. He became a renowned kung fu master, helping both villages fend off bandit attacks multiple times and protecting the secret artifact "treasure map" of Wolong Village’s Lover's Spring. Li Shirong (played by Li Bingyuan), born in Wolong Village, practiced martial arts under Liang Shifu from a young age. His handsomeness, martial prowess, and kindness made him the object of affection for both Yue'e (played by Cui Yulin) from Huilong Village and Pan Caifeng (played by Gao Lihong) from his own village, causing jealousy and envy from his senior brother Zhou Fugui (played by Cao Shuai).
Shirong and Caifeng sneakily attend Huilong Village's ritual to pray for rain, while Fugui plans to sabotage it. Unexpectedly, he falls victim to the schemes of the second-in-command of the Black Wind Gang, resulting in Shirong being captured by Huilong Village. Liang Shifu arrives with Li's father to apologize and rescue him, and Lei Yue'e also pleads for his release, leading Lei Batian (played by Chen Zhihui) to let Shirong go. Under pressure, Pan's father agrees to Fugui's proposal for marriage. In a situation filled with love, Caifeng and Shirong arrive at the forbidden Lover's Spring to complete their traditional pre-wedding bathing, but just as they embrace passionately, Zhou Fugui and his men appear. Both are punished by the village elder for violating village rules, with Liang Shifu throwing Shirong's sword deep into Sword River and reluctantly severing his right hand. The two are submerged in the river. Fugui discovers that Shirong has been rescued by Lei Yue'e but is gravely injured by her cousin De Biao (played by Wang Feihong).
Zhou's family pretends to invite Li's father to Black Wind Gorge under Shirong's name with malicious intent. Liang Shifu comes to save Li's father but is mortally wounded by the long-planned bandit leader Long Xiaoyun (played by Chen Chao).
Long Xiaoyun, having long coveted the secret artifact of the Lover's Spring in Wolong Village, believes the time has come to act following Liang Shifu's death. He orders a massacre of Wolong Village to seize the treasure from Lover's Spring, revealing that he has been scheming to become king of the southwest...
Both Huilong Village and Wolong Village are now in a crisis...
