During the Qianlong era in the Qing dynasty, the leader of the Red Flower Society, Yu Wanting, along with the fourth master, Wen Tailai, presented a copy of a posthumous letter from Madame Chen, which revealed Qianlong's humble origins, to blackmail Qianlong into allying with the Red Flower Society to restore the Ming dynasty. Qianlong secretly ordered Zhang Zhaozhong to kill Yu Wanting and captured Wen Tailai. Yu Wanting's adopted son, Chen Jialuo, succeeded him as the leader and led a group to rescue Wen Tailai. On the way, they repelled the Qing army and rescued troops from the Muchuolun faction from Xinjiang. Huoqingtong, the eldest daughter of Muchuolun, fell in love with Jialuo at first sight and joined him in an attempt to seize the prison carriage. However, they failed as Qing reinforcements arrived. Jialuo then rushed to Hangzhou and unexpectedly met Dong Fang'er on Feilai Peak. The two bonded over music and poetry. Later, Jialuo learned that Qianlong was interrogating Wen Tailai in Hangzhou, and he secretly observed from the roof, discovering that Dong Fang'er was actually Qianlong. Soon after, Jialuo returned to his long-lost hometown and obtained the original posthumous letter from his foster mother, realizing that the current emperor was actually his father's twin brother, who was swapped into the royal palace as an infant. By his parents' grave, Jialuo had another chance encounter with Qianlong, who vehemently denied being a descendant of the Chen family and promised to release Wen Tailai. Believing him, Jialuo threw his mother's posthumous letter into the Qiantang River. Unexpectedly, Qianlong then sent heavy troops to surround the Red Flower Society. Jialuo cleverly used a beauty trap to kidnap Qianlong at the Liuhe Pagoda. Prince Su wanted to take advantage of the situation to kill Qianlong, ordering the Eight Banners artillery team to bombard the tower. In his desperation, Qianlong accepted the agreement to ally with the Red Flower Society against the Qing. This film won a special award at the Paris International Women's Film Festival in 1988. The sequel is "Gobi Grievances and Revenge".
