Before the Liaoshen Campaign began, Wang Shun used a map drawn by his father to find his father's friend "Zhao Shandong" in Luobei County. Due to an explosion case in the street, Wang Shun ordered a soldier from the Northeast Democratic United Army stationed in the county to arrest some suspects. Several explosions occurred in the county, causing casualties among the local population and creating adverse reactions. To provide an explanation to the people, the division decided to execute a batch of prisoners, with Wang Shun’s name topping the list. The next morning, Wang Shun came out of the confinement room to urinate, and detected the smell of bandits in the air, which helped a stationed unit avoid significant casualties. The bandits launched a sudden attack, occupying the high ground of the county, and the defending unit was ordered to withdraw. Wang Shun picked up a long gun and shot several bandits before retreating with the unit. After Wang Shun and the unit withdrew from the county, he planned to escape but saw a female soldier captured by the bandits, so he opened fire, killing four bandits and rescuing medic Lin Hong. Lin Hong listened to Wang Shun's story and felt that he didn't seem like a bad person, persuading him to join her in returning to the unit. Wang Shun followed Lin Hong to the unit's assembly area at Yaojia Bay, where the deputy squad leader immediately ordered squad leader Su to tie up Wang Shun again as a suspect. The unit received intelligence that a small group of bandits that attacked the county was retreating towards Tianzhufeng, and Leader Zong decided to follow them to look for an opportunity to eliminate them. Leader Zong untied Wang Shun and took him along as they set out, with Lin Hong, as the medic, following behind the group. After the whole unit chased into the jungle, they lost their way, but Wang Shun keenly identified the bandits' trail. It turned out that when Wang Shun was 11, he worked with his father at the Feng Tian Arsenal and was later captured by the bandits to cook, meaning he had spent time with them and understood their habits. Under Wang Shun's guidance, Leader Zong's unit quickly located the bandits' hideout, assisted by two local villagers. The bandit leader, Lu Yidao, stubbornly resisted in Tianzhufeng with two bunkers. To avoid casualties among the soldiers, Leader Zong decided to wait for reinforcements from the division. Leader Zong fortified their position at the foot of the mountain and sent Su, Lin Hong, Wang Shun, and the two local villagers to find the cannons left by the Japanese in Xiong Xiezi Valley. With his experience, Wang Shun helped Su find a cannon that the Japanese had left deep in the mountains and once again saved Lin Hong from a bear's mouth. With the cannon, Wang Shun used the skills he learned at the Feng Tian Arsenal to set up and calibrate it, and with three shots, he overturned the two bunkers of Lu Yidao. Having lost the bunkers, the bandits scattered, and Leader Zong seized the opportunity to launch an attack, successfully capturing Lu Yidao's stronghold. Wang Shun returned to Luobei County with the unit, and the "suspect" label was removed from him thanks to the efforts of Leader Zong and Lin Hong. Wang Shun was permitted to join the Democratic United Army, and in his heart, he already considered himself one of the unit.
