Greg (Ben Stiller) is preparing to propose to his girlfriend Pam (Teri Polo) after dating for many years when he unexpectedly learns that whether his proposal is successful or not depends not only on winning Pam's heart but also on impressing her father. Pam's sister is getting married next week, and Greg will accompany Pam to the wedding. He thinks this is the perfect opportunity to please his future father-in-law and pass that critical test. Greg's name is easily misinterpreted in American slang as meaning "homosexual intercourse," and with such an unusual name, it's destined that his visit to meet his future father-in-law will not go as smoothly as he hopes. Indeed, when they arrive at Pam's house, Greg tries to be polite, but as he constantly interrupts the conversation in an attempt at humor, it backfires, and Pam's father (Robert De Niro) becomes increasingly displeased.
