When the sun reaches its highest point, its shadow disappears. Detective Han Dong-soo (played by Ha Jung-woo) becomes despondent after his son's accidental death, which occurs while he is trying to prove a theory about a concluded murder case. Fourteen years later, a new murder case seems to be connected to the one from his past. When Han Dong-soo starts to take an interest in the son of a victim from that case, he unexpectedly meets a private detective who is helping a conglomerate owner investigate his fiancée Yoo Mi-ho (played by Son Ye-jin). From this detective, he learns that a woman named Yoo Mi-ho is the daughter of the murderer believed to have committed suicide out of guilt back then. The two children Han Dong-soo had once suspected have grown up and are now again entwined in murder cases around him. During Han Dong-soo's investigation, he uncovers the truth behind both the past and the recent murder cases, revealing a pair of tragic lovers who can never meet under the light of day. The film is adapted from the famous Japanese mystery novel by Keigo Higashino, also titled "Night of White Silent." The novel was previously made into a successful television series in Japan.
