In the near future, Earth is a desert wasteland. Basic crops like wheat and okra have gone extinct due to blight, and humanity no longer gazes at the stars with the same wonder and imagination as before; instead, they count down the dwindling days under the ravages of dust storms. Former NASA astronaut Cooper (Matthew McConaughey) discovers strange gravitational phenomena in his daughter Murphy's (Mackenzie Foy) study, leading to the revelation that former NASA members are secretly working on a plan to save humanity in an unknown region. Years ago, a mysterious wormhole appeared near Saturn, prompting NASA to send astronauts to distant galaxies to search for habitable planets. Persuaded by Professor Brand (Michael Caine), Cooper reluctantly says goodbye to his daughter and joins three experts—Brand's daughter Amelia (Anne Hathaway), Romilly (David Gyasi), and Doyle (Wes Bentley)—on a spacecraft to explore the three most promising planets currently known.
