Chen Wanglai (played by Hu Huizhong) has a father (played by Han Xu) who runs a bookstore across from the university, accompanying countless migratory students for decades. This bookstore has become a harbor for students' souls, holding rich knowledge and deep emotions. However, a construction company has taken an interest in the Chen family's land and sent Ma Benyan to negotiate with Chen's father in an attempt to persuade them to sell the land. Chen's father has always been cautious about this proposal, leading to a fierce rivalry between Chen Wanglai and Ma Benyan. On a rainy day, Ma Benyan and Chen Wanglai meet unexpectedly and begin to understand each other, leading to unspoken feelings between them. However, the construction company approaches the Chen family again, and Chen’s father tries to fend them off with a high price. Unexpectedly, the company's higher-ups readily agree to the high price. Shocked, Chen’s father, unable to let go of the deep friendship he shares with his students, ultimately decides to break the contract. Chen Wanglai can only stand by his father's side, putting Ma Benyan in a very awkward position. Every day, he can only drown his sorrows in alcohol, falling into a painful predicament.
