In 1930s Shanghai, the Japanese are arrogant and domineering. The head of the Hongkou dojo, Hu Genmu, plots to poison the legendary hero Huo Yuanjia (played by Liu Jia Hui). Chen Zhen (played by Shi Tianlong) hurriedly returns to Shanghai to pay his respects to his master. The arrogance of the Japanese is unbearable for the hot-blooded Chen Zhen, who boldly infiltrates the Hongkou dojo and easily defeats Hu Genmu and his men. He suspects there is foul play in his master's death. The beautiful little junior sister (played by Wan Qiwen) is actually a spy sent by the Nanjing government. She guides Chen Zhen, saying, "A true hero is not just a fighter; he must understand the principles of saving the country and its people to be a real great hero." With her help, the truth about his master's death gradually comes to light. However, Chen Zhen is devastated to find out that his beloved wife (played by Zhang Baowen) has long since passed away, and the person by his side is actually his wife's twin sister, who is also a spy for the Japanese consulate in Shanghai. Chen Zhen suffers greatly from this revelation, but with the help of his little junior sister and the underground party leader, he finds a way to rise above the pain. When he learns that the Japanese plan to smuggle opium to poison his fellow countrymen, he steps forward to defeat the fierce and cunning Japanese samurai. He burns the opium and redeems the name of Chinese martial arts.
