Edmond (Louis Jourdan) is a vibrant young sailor full of enthusiasm for life, and his kind personality has earned him many friends in the world. Mercedes (Yvonne Furneaux) is the girl Edmond loves, and they plan to marry once he returns from this sea venture. Unfortunately, Edmond's happiness makes his rival, Fernand (Jean-Claude Michel), very envious. Along with the foolish judge Villefort (Bernard Dhéran), they use false accusations to imprison Edmond. Seventeen years pass, and with the help of a fellow inmate, Edmond, filled with hatred, successfully escapes from prison. After his release, he has only one thought: to seek revenge on everyone responsible for his downfall. Edmond transforms into the mysterious Count of Monte Cristo and, after successfully infiltrating high society, gradually implements his plan for revenge.
