At the beginning of the Liberation War, Zhang Zhijian (played by Zhang Ping), a platoon leader of a certain unit of the People's Liberation Army, leads his men to cover the troop's retreat. After fighting fiercely with the enemy for several days and nights, they run out of ammunition and food. Zhang Zhijian orders the soldiers to break through from a cliff.
