In the mountainous areas of Monterrey, Mexico, a street gang named "Tecos" lives their daily life listening to the slow rhythms of cumbia music, attending various parties, and showing off their outfits, hairstyles, and gang status. This group of rebellious young people refers to themselves as "Cholombians," a mix of mestizo culture and Colombian music. Ulysses Samperiou (17 years old) is the leader of the "Tecos," who tries to protect his friends from the dark side of a rapidly evolving drug/political war, but he has a misunderstanding with the local cartel and is forced to move to a diverse immigrant community in New York City—Jackson Heights in Queens. Ulysses struggles to fit into this community, but when he learns that his gang and the entire mixed Colombian culture are under threat, he begins to question his place in America and yearns to return home.
