The film is based on true events. 　　The story takes place in 19th century turbulent and chaotic England, where Burke (Simon Pegg) and Hare (Andy Serkis) are a pair of grave robbers who illegally steal valuable burial items from tombs and convert them into a considerable amount of money. However, the burial items are limited, and grave-robbing doesn’t make them wealthy, so the evil duo begins to target corpses. 　　They sell the bodies to a doctor named Robert (Tom Wilkinson) for huge profits, but as time passes, the few deceased are no longer able to satisfy Hare and Burke's growing appetite, leading them to become creators of corpses. In just one year, 17 people have lost their lives at the hands of Hare and Burke, but while committing their crimes, the two are also digging their own graves.
