In the fall of 2010, WHO official Eiko Kobayashi (played by Rei Dan) went to the Philippines to help contain an avian flu outbreak. The epidemic was quickly brought under control, but some infected individuals secretly left the quarantine zone... The following year, at a city hospital in Tokyo, a patient with a high fever admitted by Doctor Go Matsuoka (played by Satoshi Tsumabuki) took a turn for the worse and died of hemoptysis. The patient's family and some doctors also fell ill due to infections. Meanwhile, avian influenza virus was detected in a nearby chicken farm, disrupting the tranquil life of farm owner Kamisa (played by Chizuru Ikewaki) and her daughter.
