In the near future, Western countries and China find themselves in a Cold War, with a tense atmosphere prompting a competitive development of advanced weapons, including artificial intelligence robots. Dr. Vincent McCarthy (played by Toby Stephens), in order to cure his daughter's illness, transitions from a private company to a defense department-supported research institution, dedicated to transforming soldiers suffering from fatal injuries on the battlefield into intelligent robots with strong combat capabilities, while secretly embezzling funds to treat his daughter. The beautiful Ava (played by Caity Lotz) passes through layers of tests to enter the institution and becomes Vincent's assistant. After a series of trials, they finally establish trust in each other. Unexpectedly, on a night returning home, they are attacked by spies from China. Vincent narrowly escapes, while the critically injured Ava is transformed into an intelligent robot. Their fate in this clouded institution remains uncertain...
