Jimmy (Liam Neeson) is an experienced and shrewd hitman working for mob boss Sean (Ed Harris), and the two have developed a deep friendship over many years of collaboration. Living constantly in blood and conspiracy, Jimmy feels exhausted and contemplates "retirement." Mike (Joel Kinnaman) is Jimmy's son, and their relationship is distant due to the father's special occupation.
