Jazz (played by Katrina Kaif) is an Indian girl who grew up in London, fully immersed in British culture to the extent that she changed her original name Jasmeet to Jazz. The fashionable and modern girl often clashes with her father's traditional views, leading to constant arguments. The escalation of their father-daughter conflict finally results in her father taking her back to India, where she is forced to meet various suitors. Her father decides to marry her off to a rural boy named Arjun (played by Akshay Kumar), but Jazz feels there is no common ground with this traditional Indian man who cannot speak English. However, under pressure, and at the suggestion of her friend Imran, she fakes a wedding ceremony with Arjun in India to return to London. Back in London, Jazz informs her parents and Arjun that the marriage is not legally recognized in the UK, and then accepts her boyfriend Charlie's (played by Clive Standen) proposal. Arjun's arguments against Charlie and his friends' prejudices make Jazz reconsider her views, and as they spend time together, she begins to gradually fall in love with this Indian man.
