In order to reunite with his long-lost daughter, writer Tom (played by Ethan Hawke) travels across the miles to Paris, only to find himself almost arrested by the police and losing all of his luggage on the bus. With no money and limited French skills, Tom finds himself working as a night doorman at a restaurant, feeling that his future is bleak. The upside-down life brings Tom numerous insights and introduces two unique and captivating women into his life. Anya (played by Joanna Kulig) is passionate and vibrant, while Margit (played by Kristin Scott Thomas) is elegant and charming, but both women harbor unknown secrets. In a strange city with a foreign language, as time passes, Tom gradually realizes that everything is not as simple as it seems.
