In a small town often covered in white snow, there stands a dim and lonely apartment where the young boy Owen (played by Kodi Smit-McPhee) lives with his divorced mother (played by Cara Buono). This delicate boy is sensitive and timid, often bullied at school, while his mother is deeply religious and unable to pay him much attention. Owen can only hide in his small room, spying on the outside world through a telescope or pretending to be a serial killer to release his pent-up anger and frustration. One night, the beautiful and mysterious Abby (played by Chloë Grace Moretz) moves into the apartment, becoming Owen's neighbor. These two uniquely spirited children are drawn to each other and gradually become good friends. Meanwhile, a series of murders occur in the town, and Owen inadvertently discovers the incredible secret about Abby... This film is adapted from the novel of the same name by John Ajvide Lindqvist, and the Swedish version received great acclaim upon its release.
