Before 1949, the name of Beijing was Beiping. The name "Beiping" became historical with the birth of the new China, but the term "Pingbei," located north of Beiping, continues to carry the heroic deeds of blood-soaked resistance against the war, remaining ever fresh. More than eighty years ago, amidst internal troubles and external dangers, China was engulfed in turmoil, and Beiping could no longer accommodate a study desk. The Pingbei anti-Japanese base was at the forefront of the North China resistance, serving as a "shield" for the Pingxi anti-Japanese base; it also became a transportation hub and strategic support point for the anti-Japanese base in eastern Hebei, effectively restraining and fighting a large number of Japanese and puppet troops in North China, significantly impacting the victory in the Jin-Cha-Ji region and the entire North China resistance. This film tells the story of the Eighth Route Army's three advances into Pingbei from 1938 to 1945, and the only intellectual group in the Eighth Route Army—the Tenth Regiment of the Jin-Cha-Ji Advance Army—opening up the anti-Japanese base in Pingbei through tremendous sacrifice and arduous struggle. The film features Bai Yihua, representing the backbone of the 129 student movement, and Duan Suquan, representing the Red Army of workers and farmers, who stood up in the face of national peril, embracing the national mission and family responsibilities, raising the flag of youth, and penetrating the enemy's heart to extract teeth. Based on the three treasures of the Party's construction, armed struggle, and united front, they established grassroots people's authority and an anti-enemy military district command in Pingbei, leading the people of Pingbei in courageous resistance against the war.
