Master Jiu (played by Lam Ching-ying), a Taoist priest from Maoshan, has a big apprentice Fei Bao (played by Sammo Hung) who is betrothed to Zhu Nu (played by Gigi Leung), the daughter of a tea house owner. However, her father dislikes Fei Bao for his poverty and wants to marry her off to a wealthy young man named Master Shi. To prepare a substantial dowry, Fei Bao starts a porridge stall to make money. Unexpectedly, the first customer turns out to be a female ghost. Following her leads him to discover that this ghost, named Xiao Hong (played by Wang Wenjun), lingers in the human world to take care of her blind mother. He pretends to be Xiao Hong's cousin and brings the mother and daughter home. Fei Bao's apprentice Xiao Hai (played by Meng Hai) learns of this and asks Xiao Hong to seduce Master Shi to help his senior brother earn some money. However, they are discovered by a wizard from the Shi family...
