◎Synopsis Plot Summary In an ancient city in Transylvania, Romania, in 2006, lightning splits the sky followed by a torrential downpour. An unexpected visitor quietly enters the ancient city and attacks a sleeping vampire with a mosquito that surprisingly inserts a needle into the vampire's neck! After dodging the vampire's furious attack, the mosquito disappears into the night sky. One night in 2006, that bloodsucking mosquito is out looking for prey. The blood vessels of hot-blooded cop Ro Dae-ryeong (played by Kim Soo-ro) are particularly prominent, and in an instant, the mosquito viciously bites into his blood vessel… from the spot the mosquito bit, his blood vessels begin to rapidly turn green… What will become of Ro Dae-ryeong's fate? By day he is a passionate cop, by night he is an irrational one. By day he is human; by night he is a vampire. His extraordinary double life is about to begin… Highlights 001 Establishing a comical hero action comedy The first hero action comedy in Korean cinema history, "Zombie Cop Ro Dae-ryeong," is a fresh blood injection into Korean film. The cop who becomes a vampire possesses extraordinary abilities, and this combination of heroism with comedy and action is unprecedented in Korean history. The film "Zombie Cop Ro Dae-ryeong" aims to create a superhero image like "Superman," "Spider-Man," and "Batman." However, it also intentionally crafts a more Koreanized hero image. The overall tone of the film carries a Korean comedic spirit, and if previous superhero images have not brought laughter, now Zombie Cop Ro Dae-ryeong will fulfill his comical mission. 002 The first Korean bloodline vampire, aiming to be extraordinary 100% made in Korea, what is the difference in a Korean bloodline vampire? More realistic, more humanized—this is the Korean bloodline vampire. The typical features of vampires can generally be divided into two types: one is the pale and noble vampire embodied in beautiful women, and the other is the futuristic soldier type vampire. In "Zombie Cop Ro Dae-ryeong," the vampire is approachable. Ro Dae-ryeong's vampire nature is kind, using his extraordinary powers to do many just deeds. To create a purely Korean vampire, the production team avoided artificiality and unreality, pursuing a style closest to nature. The Korean bloodline vampire does not have exaggerated costumes or distorted faces but seeks subtle changes in eyes and teeth. Kim Soo-ro's vampire teeth achieve a perfect combination with his real teeth, and to reflect the changes in his eyes, the production team even specially air-shipped custom colored contact lenses from the USA. 003 Comedy box office guarantee, can Kim Soo-ro, making his leading debut, hit another home run If you ask who has seen a movie starring Kim Soo-ro, there are probably very few among Korean audiences who haven't. Kim Soo-ro has showcased his versatile acting skills through films like "Attack the Gas Station," "The King of Comedy," "Volcano High," "S Diary," "The Bold Family," and "The Most Beautiful Week of My Life." Although specialized in comedy, he can also perform excellently in action films and TV dramas. Kim Soo-ro has finally welcomed his first film where he is the sole male lead, "Zombie Cop Ro Dae-ryeong." The role of the zombie cop is special and unique, making it challenging to find a perfectly fitting candidate. However, only Kim Soo-ro consistently earned the production team's admiration. Always bringing laughter, Kim Soo-ro is also showcasing his well-developed muscular body this time. In 2006, Kim Soo-ro will present to everyone the essence of comedy, action, and sexiness—let us look forward to it together. 004 Directed by Lee Si-ming, a super action comedy Director Lee Si-ming's latest work following "2009: Lost Memories." Armed with action comedy, Lee Si-ming seeks resonance from reality with fantastical themes, creating genuine kung fu and super comedic effects, raising people's expectations for his works even higher. In "Zombie Cop Ro Dae-ryeong," audiences can witness the comedic and action elements characteristic of director Lee Si-ming. The aerial stunts and blood-sucking scenes involving the vampire will also become essential highlights. As Lee Si-ming's second major work, audiences eagerly await his miracle. 005 The best character images composed of the strongest actors One of the most unique images in Korean cinema history, there is nothing newer than this. Aside from the lead zombie cop played by Kim Soo-ro, every actor surrounding him showcases their outstanding acting skills. Just like watching "Batman" and "Spider-Man," the tension is maintained by those villains who confront the hero. Similarly, in "Zombie Cop Ro Dae-ryeong," there is a villain played by actor Son Byung-ho, whose successful portrayal adds much fun to the film. The woman character as the zombie cop's partner, played by Jo Yoo-jung, is a woman who always trusts the zombie cop; her acting is also delicate and full of charm. The brilliant performances of each character in the film will surely present the movie's essence perfectly to the audience. Behind the Scenes 001 The Birth of the Bloodsucking Mosquito The birth of the zombie cop owes much to the bloodsucking mosquito. The bloodsucking mosquito not only serves as the motive in the film but also plays a similarly crucial role as the protagonist. To create a highly realistic bloodsucking mosquito, the production team gathered Korea's top mosquito CG production team. They enlarged a realistic-looking mosquito by ten times and depicted its mouth and legs in a more ferocious manner. The mosquito that dies in Ro Dae-ryeong's hand in the scene where he kills the biting mosquito is a real mosquito around three times bigger that the actor specially caught. With the collaborative efforts of the cast and crew, the birth of the bloodsucking mosquito is sure to be well presented in the film. 002 Overcoming Challenges: Kim Soo-ro Takes on the Impossible Task To successfully portray a vampire, Kim Soo-ro faces challenges ranging from high-altitude work to special costumes… His tasks can be described as encountering water, road, and aerial battles. As a zombie cop, Kim Soo-ro had to jump from tall buildings and crawl upside down on ceilings. For two consecutive days, he shot scenes using tightropes, causing his waist to nearly break, yet he persevered through the pain until the end. After completing the high-altitude tasks, Kim Soo-ro's second challenge was even more difficult. He needed to film a scene where a rat crawls into his clothes. Kim Soo-ro, who has always feared rats throughout his life, filmed this scene a total of seven times, with the rats being quite large. Kim Soo-ro is fighting alone; let’s hope he gains something from this film. 003 To Create a True Vampire, Staff Make Their Maximum Effort From masks to teeth to colored contact lenses, a more realistic vampire has been born. To create matching masks, the staff made 17 styles to select the most suitable one for Kim Soo-ro. The production of the vampire teeth was done according to different transformation stages of the vampire. The colored contact lenses were also produced in various stages, initially yellow and ultimately red for the full transformation. To showcase the characteristics of the city-guarding zombie cop, the costumes abandoned the usual red and black combination and chose a style based on western cowboy themes. To create a realistic vampire, the entire staff made commendable efforts to refine every detail. 004 Heavy Bomb - The Making of the Comedy Trailer With a total investment of 100 million won, the trailer was shot in the vampire's hometown of the Czech Republic. The local production team involved has previously worked on films like "Van Helsing" and "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen." The trailer's voiceover includes two versions: one in Korean and another in English for international audiences. The effort to fly to the Czech Republic just for trailer shooting indicates the production team's desire to deliver a great film to the audience. 005 Kim Soo-ro's Brilliant Improvisational Performance Beyond imagination, beyond dialogue, beyond limits! This is Kim Soo-ro's remarkable improvisation skills. The reason many people love Kim Soo-ro's comedy is that he can derive humor from the most basic lines that only he can deliver effectively. His comedic skills honed over the years in life have gained universal recognition. In "Zombie Cop Ro Dae-ryeong," Kim Soo-ro also showcases his value. His impromptu lines produce great comedic effects, and some could even be regarded as quotable. The film features many clever and funny scenes with Kim Soo-ro, which everyone can enjoy in detail.
