The film is adapted from the novel "The Girl in the Dark" by suspense writer Zhou Haohui: Li Xiaoqiong (Hu Jieqiong) accompanies her boyfriend Guo Jun (Chen Yelin) to move into a secluded small building. She discovers a mysterious little girl hidden behind a dark window next door, but the neighbor denies the girl's existence. Li Xiaoqiong investigates the truth and is horrified to find that the so-called "next-door room" is actually a secret chamber in her own home. Two murder cases, separated by years, intersect in the secret chamber, and the escaped criminal from years ago is finally brought to justice.
