Lu Hui (played by Deng Lixin) is diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, which is a significant blow to both herself and her live-in boyfriend En Ming (played by Yu Wenle). Lu Hui's younger sister loves to read ghost stories and gets criticized by her teacher at school. In a bad mood, Lu Hui looks at her uninformed sister and loses her temper. While En Ming comforts Lu Hui's emotions, he also deals with heavy work. During a company layoff, En Ming encounters his elementary school classmate Zhu Fangting while interviewing for a new job. Although En Ming still makes time to accompany Lu Hui, she, tormented by illness, forces a smile, shows unstable emotions, and behaves oddly, which adds tremendous pressure on En Ming. Zhu Fangting's understanding and relaxed nature draws En Ming closer, and they begin a relationship, continuing to keep it from Lu Hui.
