Two couples—Mait (played by Leigh Whannell) and Nina (played by Mirrah Foulkes), Jack (played by Nathan Phillips) and Rebecca (played by Melanie Vallejo) travel together to Tasmania, Australia. This place was once a small island used by the British Empire to exile criminals from the 18th to the 19th century, with harsh conditions and difficult escape routes, except for one Irish man named Alexander Pearce (played by Peter Docker). Nina's sister had once come here searching for the long-extinct Tasmanian tiger, but she mysteriously died. Eight years later, the same biology student Nina comes to fulfill her sister's unfinished wish and attempts to unravel the mystery of her sister's death...
