This film tells the story of a strange family living in isolation. The family consists of parents and their eldest son, along with two daughters, making a total of five living together in a hidden mansion. The three children have been sequestered by their father since childhood; they cannot interact with anyone other than their parents and know almost nothing about the world beyond the high walls. When their father goes to work, they stay with their mother in the house, learning and playing. All of their knowledge is taught by their parents, who tell them that the outside world is extremely dangerous, and if the children want to go out, they must wait until their "dogtooth" falls out.
The father is the only one allowed to drive outside; he has a regular job and brings back necessities and rewards for the children. Occasionally, he brings back a female employee from the company—Cristina, who is employed to satisfy the eldest son's sexual needs. Her visits are quietly changing this family...
