Zuo Mingyu and Hong Sumei broke into the temple at night to rescue the emperor. Amid the chaos of a fierce battle with Xia Laohu and Hao Mu, Hong Sumei intercepted Zhu Youlang in front of the Great Buddha, preparing to avenge her father. Zuo Mingyu came to stop her, and then he battled with the pursuing Xia Laohu and Hao Mu. When the seriously injured Hong Sumei struggled to stab Zhu Youlang, Zuo Mingyu's sword pierced her chest. General Li Dingguo arrived with his troops, and the virtually dethroned Yongli Emperor lamented sorrowfully to the heavens.
