Lionsgate Films will collaborate with India’s Crest Animation to produce the 3D animated film "Norm of the North." The film will be shot in stereoscopic 3D, a technique previously used in "Avatar." The script is written by Steven Altiere and Daniel Altiere, and the story centers around a polar bear and three lemmings. When the ice in their homeland begins to melt, several animals of various sizes must migrate to other places. Eventually, under the leadership of the polar bear, they arrive in New York and perform as mascots for a company, only to discover that their employer is actually the culprit behind the melting Arctic ice. The film is positioned as a family movie and is being managed by Lionsgate's family entertainment division. Crest Animation hopes to release the film in early 2012. A spokesperson for Lionsgate Films stated, "With a variety of characters, scenes, and narration, 'Norm of the North' will provide solid entertainment for family audiences of all ages." A spokesperson for Crest Animation added, "It's a wonderfully humorous and heartfelt story, and the stereoscopic 3D will enhance the film."
