The recent deaths of his girlfriend Mary (Dina Meyer) and colleagues have pushed FBI agent Jack (Sylvester Stallone) into despair and collapse, as he knows full well that the cold-blooded killer is after him. Tormented and with nowhere to vent his anguish, Jack turns to alcohol for relief. Hendricks (Charles Dutton), unable to watch his friend fall, suggests that Jack quit drinking.   Thus, Jack arrives at a detox center located in the Wyoming wilderness, where he meets assistant Hank (Tom Berenger) and nurse Jenny (Polly Walker). A terrible snowstorm disrupts the detox center's electrical circuits and boiler, leaving Jack to face not only his inner demons but also the killer lurking in the shadows amidst the darkness and cold.
