In a crime-ridden city, in a remote small town that exudes a stench of loneliness and death, only a few remain there, spending their aimless and endless time lying, cheating, stealing, gambling, and doing drugs. It can be imagined that they all secretly pray for the most unusual vampire: a young girl, innocent-looking and wrapped in an Islamic hijab, who glides through the streets on a skateboard searching for victims to satisfy her thirst. This film is shot in stunning and evocative black and white, and is the debut feature of writer and director Ana Lily Amirpour, a Western Islamic vampire film, a cold yet sorrowfully romantic comedy, and one of the most shocking original films of the year. “A cunning and sexy vine,” he said.
